The story of the project: from the idea to the realization of an edible forest
Équipe Pacific PlanetShare
It all began with a passion: for nature, biodiversity, and the dream of harmonizing humanity with its environment. The idea was simple yet ambitious: to create a place where the forest would become not only a living space for flora and fauna, but also a source of inspiration, reflection, and sustainable production for humans.
The first roots
Before we managed to create the forest we are so happy about, the road was long and strewn with logs :)
In 2022, Hélène Leduc, Christofer Jauneau and I (Mathieu Plot) officially launched a project in the form of a company, convinced that the union of our skills and ideas would allow us to bring to life a project to raise awareness of nature among the general public. This is how Pacific Planet was born. Two years of hard and intensive work, and by dint of creating games on biodiversity, raising awareness and seeing my awareness of the issues take root, a shift in me takes place:
To protect nature and biodiversity, it is our food culture that must evolve.
Our homeland: Brittany, with its acidic soils and oceanic climate conducive to a rich and varied biodiversity. The plot's south-facing orientation offered us exceptional potential for crops and agroforestry.
The genesis of “The forest to delight us” which became
The idea for an edible forest came from a desire to combine agricultural innovation with ecological respect. We envisioned a space where trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals would coexist in synergy to produce fruits, vegetables, spices, and even natural medicines through gemmotherapy and herbal teas.
The name "La forêt à croquer" perfectly reflects our approach: playful, accessible, and rooted in a positive philosophy. Despite discussions about potential confusion with similar projects, we have managed to consolidate our identity and legally protect it.
The key stages of our journey
-
The crowdfunding campaign In 2024, we launched a campaign on the Miimosa platform "Forêt à croquer" to mobilize the necessary financial and human resources. It was a resounding success: 470 contributors supported our vision. This enormous support not only confirmed the relevance of our project, but also enabled us to initiate essential partnerships.
-
Scientific co-construction We have integrated a participatory and scientific dimension by collaborating with researchers and local stakeholders. This approach aims to enrich knowledge about edible forests and their impact on the ecosystem.
-
Site Development Every day, we dedicate time to planting, building infrastructure like seedling racks, and creating tools to optimize the work. Volunteers play a crucial role in these activities, strengthening the community aspect of our project.
Our ambitions for the future
We don't want to stop at food production. Our forest is a place for meeting, learning, and innovation. We plan to develop educational workshops, immersive events, and even discovery trails to raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity.
Through this project, we hope to show that agriculture that respects nature and human beings is not only possible, but necessary for a sustainable future.
A collective adventure
"The Forest Delights Us" isn't just our story. It belongs to everyone who contributes to it, whether through their donations, their work, or their enthusiasm. Together, we are making this forest grow, and with it, hope for future generations.
Trial and error is essentially the process of trying something, seeing what works and what doesn't, and then adjusting your approach accordingly. It's a bit like cooking without a recipe and adjusting the seasonings as you go. It may seem a little chaotic, but it's actually a great way to learn and improve.
